Being a Cub Scout Leader is a very rewarding experience

Den meetings

Dens are groups of six to eight children in the same grade level.  Den meetings are one hour and held generally twice a month where the scouts work on badge requirements together, usually in the form of a craft or game. There are certain requirements that need to met in order for the scouts to advance to the next rank.  Den meeting plans for the each rank are laid out for leaders at Scouting.org.

Den dues of $1 to  $2 per den meeting per scout covers the cost of crafts and materials used for den meetings.  Den meetings can be held at your house, a parents house, a church or community facility. Tiger cubs are required to have their adult partner present at all scout activities.

Go See-Its

There are ”Go See-its”  (field trips) that need to be completed as part of the badge requirement.  Examples are a visit to the police station, fire station, the Manchester History Museum or a hike at Case Mountain.

Leaders Meetings

Leaders meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at South United Methodist Church.  The Leaders discuss upcoming events and Pack business. Other leaders within the pack answer questions and provide guidance to new leaders.

Awards

Den Leaders input the date the scout earn requirements into a web based program a week before the next Pack meeting. The Awards chairperson purchases the awards and the scouts receive badges, belt loops and pins from the cubmaster at the next Pack meeting. See the FAQ page for information about inputting awards.

The Den Leaders distribute awards to the scouts at Den and Pack meetings as specific achievements are met.

Uniforms

Leaders wear a tan uniform shirt with olive trousers or shorts. Uniforms and other scout items can be purchased at the Scout Store 60 Darlin Street East Hartford, CT.

Requirements for Leaders

In order to become a leader, you will be asked to fill out an adult leader application and complete training. The adult leader application can be obtained at a Pack meeting or by emailing the cubmaster.

Youth Protection Online Training is required before you can hold your first meeting and the certificate of completion needs to be submitted with your leader application.

There is also a Fast Start training, and rank specific leader training.

If you have questions, e-mail the cubmaster

In addition to Leaders, the Pack needs volunteers for activities and other committee positions. See the Volunteers Page or e-mail the cubmaster for more information.
